God’s School of Life

God’s School of Life

From guest contributor Valerie Morse

People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, He was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

Mark 10:13-14

As the summer is swiftly coming to a close, with all of its excitement and pleasures, and children and teachers prepare to once more enter their classrooms – some enthusiastically, and some not so much so, I am thinking of a lady in Kenya named Munyiva, who is very excited, indeed.

This lovely woman had been praying to God, with a burning in her heart to start up a Christian school in Kenya. There were so many young lives with whom she wanted to share not only the opportunity of a good education, but also the love of her Saviour.  But the very idea was only a hope, as she did not have the resources…only the desire.

Meanwhile, in Canada, there was a group of Gideons, who shared the same passion for sharing their Saviour. Two of them are dear friends of mine…Glenn and Linda Parker. As they prepared to gather up things which might be of use to the people of Kenya, they were blessed with a donation of school supplies. Not quite sure how they could be of any use in their witnessing of the Gospel, they obediently packed up several suitcases of these supplies.

Isn’t that just like our God? When a little boy generously offered Jesus his few fish and loaves of bread, he could never have imagined the enormous blessing his small meal would prove to be. When a small group of children from a Christian school in Sudbury generously offered all these school supplies, little did they know what God would do with them half way around the world. And when Glenn and Linda, puzzled at what they were packing, were obedient to do so, little did they know what a deep bond of friendship would come to be. But God did.

The Parkers, along with Munyiva and her pastor-husband, Mwaya, wept at God’s goodness. They could now begin a Christian school in their community, in which God’s love could be openly shared, as He had planned, and He had miraculously brought about.

Not all lessons are learned in a classroom. I like to call it God’s school of life. I am in awe of His workings!

Happy September!
