What is the one thing you desire most?
In Psalm 27, David could have asked God for victory, protection, success, comfort, or relief from his enemies. Instead, he says: “The one thing I ask of the Lord—the thing I seek most—is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life…” — Psalm 27:4
In Week 5 of our On Repeat: Summer in the Psalms series, Pastor Curtis Gudrie explores what it means to live a “one thing” life—a life reordered around the presence of God. Our desires reveal what matters most, and what we desire most ultimately shapes our lives. When God becomes our “one thing,” we begin to discover that He is everything we need.
In this message, we look at four ways to build a life centred on Him: • Desire Him — Make your relationship with God your highest priority. • Seek Him — Pursue God Himself rather than simply what He can give you. • Dwell with Him — Don’t just visit His presence; learn to make His presence your home. • Gaze upon Him — Slow down, look closely, and meditate on who God is, what He is doing, and His goodness and promises. When God becomes our “one thing,” He becomes our refuge, our confidence, and our joy.
Psalm 27 isn’t simply an invitation to add God into an already busy life. It is an invitation to reorder our lives around Him. What would change if His presence became the one thing you wanted most?
